Giannis Antetokounmpo   is an excited man. Apart from being an NBA star, he has also been delving into the world of business, and this is where he seems to be having a lot of fun recently. As an investor in the new and innovative Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), he has placed his bets on bringing a tech-forward version of golf to a new generation of golf audiences.

LAGC is one of the six official teams (four announced, two more to be announced) that are going to take part in the inaugural edition of the TGL golf league in January 2024. It is a league that will use golf simulator technology to create competitions between some of the top golf players in the world. TGL was founded last year by golfing royalty Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy. Similarly, LAGC already had investments from Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and tennis stars Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Now, adding to the star power, LAGC has got some new co-owners with the inclusion of golf star Michelle Wie West and USWNT star Alex Morgan.

The superstar field around the incredible Bucks player keeps expanding. With the arrival of Wie West and Morgan, the TGL tournament continues to expand its horizon. Upon hearing the news of the new owners, The Greek Freak was all hype. He took to Instagram and posted a story about the instance. He wrote,”Let’s goooooooo”. The story redirects to the post by the official Instagram handle of Los Angeles Golf Club, which announced the move. Under this post, the two-times NBA MVP wrote, “Welcome to the family”

As a five-time LPGA tour winner, Wie West is the perfect fit. Meanwhile, Morgan is a football phenom and has 91 goals in 191 appearances at the club level and 121 goals in 213 appearances for the USA Women’s National Soccer Team(USWNST). It means she has hit the ball on the back of the net with an impressive 212 goals in her career.

This team of winners already has one of the, if not the greatest, women’s tennis players, Serena Williams, and doubles phenom Venus Williams. Apart from that, Reddit co-founder and Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, is also part of this group. Some weeks ago, Giannis and his brothers joined the three original owners of the club.

TGL is the meeting of the brightest stars

The tournament aims to introduce golf to a younger set of audiences and will rely on its reduced duration of the game, the aid of virtual simulation, and a movie theatre-like experience to attract new audiences to the sport. In the words of McCarley, it would be an NBA courtside experience.  There will be 15 matches before the semi-finals and the final. 

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Ryan Dotters, and Mike McCarley announced the formation of TGL last year. With golf legends like Woods and McIlroy involved, the magnet effect has been clearly visible.
