Alvin Gentry on Lebron James’ MVP Chances

New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry believes there is nobody more deserving of the 2020 MVP award than LeBron James. Following the Pelicans’ 122-114 loss to the Lakers, Gentry spoke to the media about James’ dominance for the last 10 years.

The head coach claims no one comes close to The King in the MVP conversation.

“I’m just amazed that they talk about anybody other than him for MVP. That’s what he does. Every team that he’s been to, every team that he’s gone have a chance to win the championship”.  Gentry said of the Lakers star, via ESPN. “I’m not sure what the definition of MVP is but he makes everybody on his team better and it makes it difficult for everybody playing.”

Definition of MVP?

As Gentry mentions he is not sure what the definition for MVP is and neither are we. This has been a widely controversial topic over the years. Does the MVP represent the best player in the league or the player most valuable to his team? We still don’t have a clear answer to this. The recent trend has been that player with the best stats and even a mediocre team performance wins the award.

LeBron James appeared in the NBA Finals eight straight times from 2011 to 2018. He won three titles over that span. His latest win was the historical 3-1 comeback against the 73-win Golden State Warriors squad, giving the Cleveland Cavaliers their first championship in franchise history.

He signed with the Lakers two years ago, with the team trying to return to the headlines as soon as possible. Now, they are one of the top favourites to win the championship this year.

LeBron is 35, playing his 17th season in the league has not slowed down one bit. In Alvin Gentry’s opinion, James should be the MVP, regardless of how good other guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo, James Harden or Luka Doncic are playing.
