On the brink of elimination, the Dallas Mavericks saved their season with an emphatic Game 4 win. Going into the WCF finals against the Golden State Warriors, was always going to be tough. However, Mavericks fell off big time after going down 3-0 in the series. But they have kept that fight alive after clinching a must-win Game 4. While a near-impossible task still awaits them, NBA Twitter thrashed Kevin Durant and the Nets as they remain the only team to get swept in the playoffs.

After injuries cut their playoff journey short last season, this season was looking like the year for the Nets. Despite the exit of James Harden, Kyrie Irving and KD were tearing the league apart. Notably, Durant was one of the top scorers in the league while Irving did not lose his basketball magic despite not playing most season. However, the Boston Celtics taught them an unforgettable lesson. They were swept in the very first round against the number 2 seed.

Likewise, with Dallas avoiding the sweep, the Nets had no one to share the pain. And NBA fans rubbed salt on their wounds.

Mavericks triumph over the Warriors leads to a Nets downfall

With Mavericks just one game away from being swept, all eyes were on the WCF. However, with the home crowd roaring for them, the Mavs successfully beat the Warriors down. In a dominating win, they sent a statement across that the fight isn’t over just yet. Led by Luka Doncic once again, the Dallas forces did their job perfectly to take them over the line. However, avoiding the sweep left the Brooklyn Nets as the only team to lose 4 on a trot.

In a must-win game, the Mavericks surely put their best foot forward. Led by Doncic’s 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 assists, they broke down the Warriors 119-109 in Game 4. Both Reggie Bullock and Finney-Smith emerged as key contributors after disappearing in the previous clash. Finney Smith went off for 23 points on 9-13 shooting. On the other hand, Bullock added a further 18 points with 6 triples. While the win was emphatic, it is only the start of a tough road for the Mavericks.

Surprisingly, the Warriors’ aggressive starters couldn’t get the job done tonight. Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins both couldn’t contribute heavily as they combined to score only 33 points. The bench came in huge towards the end as they outscored the Mavericks 39-20 in the fourth quarter. But the loss clarified that anything is possible in the game of basketball. And the Warriors need to be careful to not slack off after having an enormous advantage.

The Bay will surely go back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong. As for Dallas, it is all or nothing from here on out, as every game is a must-win.
