Criticism comes as a bundled deal with being a famous athlete. Some of them carry actual value and are of help, while others are often disingenuous and malicious. In a sport like the NBA where veterans and pundits are heavily involved in dissecting the sport regularly, criticism is bound to come your way because analysing the game is a part of the sport. However, recently, Kevin Durant received some bizarre criticism from a veteran writer in the form of a ‘marriage proposal’.

Kevin Durant is no stranger to criticism in his career. Although few can dispute his reputation as one of the greatest scorers of all-time, KD’s leadership and ability to close have been in question many times. The most well-known among his critics are renowned NBA figures, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal.

Recently Shaq and Barkley raised similar concerns regarding Durant which compelled him to speak up. However, his response didn’t draw favorable responses from many NBA circles.

In response to the criticism, the Phoenix Suns forward stated, “I don’t need no credit from y’all, no credit from [Barkley], no credit from Shaq. Y’all don’t ever have to watch me play ever again, don’t talk about me if you don’t [rock] with me. I’m not gonna stop doing what I do. Everybody has their opinions, man. It’s not gonna stop me and how I approach the game.”

In a bizarre response to Durant’s clap back at his critics, NBA analyst Ric Bucher, host for FS1’s “Speak for Yourself” talk show, suggested that Durant should get married. Bucher said, “Kevin Durant needs to get married“.

He added, “Kevin Durant needs a relationship that teaches him what you have to respond to and what you just let go.” Bucher further explained that his own marriage has taught him a lot about matured responses to criticism and working together for the common good. Therefore, the veteran reporter believes a serious relationship could instill in Durant similar principles.

Although, Shaq and Barkley are yet to give their response to KD’s comments. This back-and-forth certainly has hit the right notes and is all over social media. Meanwhile, fans on Twitter had a field day gauging the bizarre back and forth.
