It generally takes a David to defeat a Goliath. But what if it is David against David or in the NBA’s reference, 6’8″ Jayson Tatum vs 6’7″ Luka Doncic? Well, it then takes a special game-ending shot to claim dominance. And on November 6th, the Mavericks leader had that magic with him as he ruined a huge night for the Celtics’ topper.

Luka is not new to taking clutch shots and mostly remains his side’s only option during those nerve-wracking moments. So in the American Airlines Center, his unit again trusted him and the Slovenian responded with precision.

Luka Doncic and his shimmery magic blinded the Celtics

With under 12 seconds remaining on the game clock, the score was 104 apiece. That’s when Luka Doncic managed to grab a pass and spent a few seconds dribbling around the logo. But suddenly, he came heavily on the right side of Josh Richardson and attempted a buzzer-beating three-pointer.

The shot left Marcus Smart (who was earlier on Luka) and center Robert Williams looking like mere bystanders. Also, one must not forget the precise screening from Reggie Bullock that allowed Luka to gain possession in the first place.

In the post-game interview, Luka Magic revealed how he liked the left side and that 45 degrees angle. He then confessed, “For one second I stood there. I didn’t realise I made it, it was amazing.”

But beyond Luka, it was Kristaps Porzingis who made his presence felt with 21 points at 53.8% FG. Although he was not productive from the long range, his defense more or less made up for that flaw.

All of it was enough to throw mud at a 32-point double-double performance from Jayson Tatum, who was a beast from the deep. Had this game gone into an OT, perhaps the result would have been different.
