Over the years, Netflix has released multiple sports documentaries in honor of several sporting GREATs who have inspired millions of fans. A few of them are Pele, Break Point, The Redeem Team, and the one perhaps most talked about in the NBA, The Last Dance. This docuseries on Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan presented the iconic team’s chase for their sixth championship title and revealed a few unknown facts about the players. Almost three years after the MJ documentary, Netflix is now back with a film on another NBA legend.

The Last Dance was released on April 2020 and featured several former NBA superstars, namely Michael Jordan’s former Chicago Bulls teammates Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Phil Jackson, among others. In 2020, the miniseries won the Creative Arts Emmy Award for Best Documentary, much to fans’ delight.

Netflix will soon release a documentary on Bill Russell

Former Boston Celtics player Bill Russell is arguably the true definition of a legend in the NBA. The sports world took a major hit when the NBA GREAT passed away in July 2022. Russell was 88 years old at the time of his death and had left behind an incredible legacy that hardly has been able to find its match in the league. To honor the 11x NBA champion, Netflix will be releasing a Bill Russell documentary on February 8 and the trailer is already winning hearts.

In the 2 minute-long trailer, several NBA superstars commemorated Russell by recalling the Celtics legend’s stellar career in the league and his philanthropic works outside of it. Six back-to-back championships as a player, two championships as a coach, and a 4x NBA rebounding titles are a few of the achievements Russell accomplished during his career. He is also the first player in the league’s history to win back-to-back NCAA championships and NBA championships.

Furthermore, Russell was a stalwart in fighting systemic racism in the country. The adverse conditions the Celtics legend had to fight through to win his 11 NBA chips paved the way for the younger generation to prosper.

There is no doubt that 12x NBA All-Star Bill Russell has inspired many players to pursue their NBA dream. In the trailer, NBA superstars Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, and Chris Paul each gave their take on the Celtics legend’s 14 years of stellar NBA career.

Whereas, Tatum stated that Russell had ‘opened avenues for the younger generation’.
