Magic Johnson divides his attention between all his teams well. This weekend his attention is on his soccer team. The most anticipated clash between titanic teams in the MLS is happening this week. One of those teams has the multi-championship superstar energy of Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

He was on X building the hype for this epic matchup between LAFC and Columbus Crew. “I’m so excited for my LAFC team to play the Columbus Crew for the MLS Championship tomorrow at 4pm EST on Fox and AppleTV!” he wrote.

This is giving him much needed positive diversion given the Washington Commanders’ losing streak. Next week, he’ll be back in the NFL realm. But this week’s for soccer.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend’s foray into sports team ownership was cemented when he bought into the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks and the MLS’ LAFC in 2014. The soccer team was still an expansion club when he came in. Now it’s the highest-ranked franchise in Major League Soccer under the Magic Johnson Enterprises umbrella.

LAFC won the 2022 MLS title and is poised to defend it once more. Magic and his wife, Cookie, were present at the game when their team advanced to the MLS championship. He was on X after the Western Conference Finals to declare they were sure to win a consecutive title.

LAFC is on its way to Ohio, where the game will be in the Lower.com Field of Columbus for the third time the city is hosting the MLS Cup. Columbus Crew has survived a relocation and more, hoping to do the city that retained them proud. Both teams promise to make this a match to remember.

Between his NBA player career and multi-team ownership phase, Magic Johnson has won 14 championships and hoping for his 15th. He’s, however, seeing the chances of adding a Super Bowl ring to his collection dwindle.

Magic Johnson ignores the Commanders

The Washington Commanders have been on an embarrassing streak lately with nothing to show for other than a 3-5 purgatory. The NFL trade deadline is nearing and this is where the new owners, Josh Harris and Magic Johnson, will weigh in. Magic has been at the front of the ownership group, expressing his disappointment in the team every time he’s on X.

He’s gone from pointing out the Commanders’ flaws to simply giving up and acknowledging the opponent is better. He’s stayed mum on fans’ demands to change the coaching staff and instead found solace in the victories of other phenomenal athletes. From Juju Watkins breaking every record to LeBron James’ outstanding run during the In-Season Tournament, Magic Johnson is ecstatic for them.
