Drafted into the Seattle Supersonics as the 17th pick in round one of the 1989 NBA draft, Shawn Kemp was a six-time NBA All-Star and three-time All-NBA Second Team member. During his fifteen-year NBA career, the former NBA player averaged 14.6 points per game, 8.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

During an informal interview, the former NBA star shares his “peculiar” diet before facing Michael Jordan in an NBA play-off game.

As the interviewer asks him, “Do you smoke weed?” Shawn Kemp almost instantly replies, “Yeah man, I intake regular.” The interviewer then asks, “What’s the best performance (when high) you’ve had in a game?” The former NBA star recalls a play-off game against Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls where he dunked and balanced on Dennis Rodman’s shoulders.

The former NBA star is talking about Game 4 of the 1996 NBA finals in which the Seattle Sonics destroyed the Chicago Bulls (107-86). The Seattle Sonics star was the highest scorer in that game with 25 points. The Chicago Bulls went onto win that series securing their fourth ring under MJ’s leadership.

The interviewer asks a final question to the former-NBA big man, “If you could say one thing to Victor Wembanyama, what would it be?” to which Shawn Kemp jokingly says, “Smoke weed and get the munchies. You need a little weight gain man.”

However, the former NBA big man then goes onto say on a serious note, “I think everything he’s being doing so far has been great. He doesn’t really have to get any bigger, all he has to do is get stronger as a man.”

Shawn Kemp may not be the most successful player in the NBA’s history, but he was definitely ‘built different’ as many athletes wouldn’t dare to smoke and perform well before even a regular season game, let alone in the NBA finals.
