Yesterday saw one of the most highly anticipated soccer events of the year taking place in its full glory. Los Angeles FC faced off against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in MLS in the City of Angels. Along with the usual soccer fans and enthusiasts, various celebrities from Leonardo DiCaprio and Selena Gomez to Prince Harry also descended to watch the wizard in play. Getting the opportunity to witness the legend in action, a renowned Hollywood star dropped a stunning comparison between Messi and NBA icon Michael Jordan.

So far, any match featuring the 7x Ballon d’Or winner has seen fans come in flock to witness his magic. But this match in LA was special.

The highly anticipated match saw live commentary being conducted by representatives of Apple TV. During the match, the crew took turns to take a quote from each and every major name who was present to witness the same. LAFC co-owner and renowned actor Will Ferrell stated his excitement by exclaiming that he had people reaching out to him as far back as May just to secure a ticket.

“This is so cool for MLS, this is so cool LAFC and the entire league, it’s great!,” said Ferrell during the interview. The Apple TV crew also took a moment to question 54-year-old Oscar and BAFTA nominee Owen Wilson during the pregame period.

Owen Wilson, donning a LAFC cap, may have been rooting for Messi’s rivals but he surely had the football legend in his prayers. During his interview with ESPN, the Zoolander star stated just that.

“Messi is my favorite player in the world. I was so happy when Argentina won the World Cup. I met the reporter who was shouting, ‘Argentina world champion’ as he started crying and I can’t wait to see Messi in person tonight. I’m as excited as a kid on Christmas”.

Once the game was over, a shirtless Messi was seen interacting with fans and obliging them with a picture or two. The most heartwarming moment took place when the footballer walked up to where Owen Wilson and his family were standing. After embracing the actor, Messi proceeded to sign the jerseys of the latter’s two children.

The pleasing moment was uploaded by the official Twitter handle of the MLS. Fans couldn’t help but watch in amazement as the two stars were featured in one clip. Many people have attempted to share a memorable moment with Owen Wilson. This, however, might have been the first time that the actor himself experienced a fan-like moment.
