Former Miami Heat shooter Dion Waiters might have just come closer to signing with Los Angeles Lakers.
Waiters, along with JR Smith, was to have a workout with the Lakers on Monday. As per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the workout seemed to have worked out well for Waiters.
Waiters could have played for the Miami Heat extensively this season but for his behavioral issues. He served three separate suspensions during the first few months of the season before the Heat waived him.
Charania further reported that Waiters had talks with the Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka.
Into his eighth season in the NBA, Waiters has played for three different teams. He started his career in 2012 when the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him with the fourth overall pick. In his final season in Cleavland, Waiters teamed up with current Lakers star LeBron James. This could work in favour of a move to the Lakers now.
Waiters later played a season for Oklahoma City Thunder before joining the Miami Heat. Over the eight years in NBA, Waiters has averaged 13.2 points. 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Waiters could the man who could share the scoring load with the LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Although the Lakers have one of the most talented rosters in the league, they have been looking for players to increase their bench strength. Someone who can score when the likes of James and Davis are rested.
The Lakers have failed to make any signings before the February 6 trade deadline. They have been since then linked to a few free agents with Waiters being the latest.
