We know Giannis Antetokounmpo as the ‘Greek Freak’ who plies his trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. The 26-year-old who was drafted at fifteenth overall by the Bucks has set the Eastern conference alight over the last couple of seasons. He was the recipient of the 2017 Most Improved Player Award, led the voting at the 2019 all-star game, and was selected as captain of the Eastern conference for the 2020 All-Star Game.

The recently crowned NBA Champion has had a great career already, with impressive feats to his name. But how much do we know about his brothers?

Giannis has two older brothers and two younger brothers, all of whom are involved in sports. Three of the four Antetokounmpo brothers play basketball in the NBA. However, none of them have made an impact akin to Giannis.

Giannis Antetokounmpo-What do we know about his brothers?

Only the eldest Antetokounmpo brother, Francis, is a football player. His career hasn’t soared, as he primarily plays as a midfielder with Greek lower league sides. Francis’ last known club was Greek 4th tier side Aittitos Spata F.C.

His older brother, Thanasis, plays with him in the Milwaukee Bucks. However, his journey has not been smooth. The Knicks initially acquired Thanasis Antetokounmpo as the 51st pick of round 2 in the 2014 draft. After 5 summer league games for the Knicks, the G League side Westchester Knicks acquired him. Thanasis headed off to Spain after 2 years of ins and outs in the United States, where he MoraBanc Andorra of the Liga ACB. Refreshingly, here he was named the “Most Spectacular Player” of the year.

After that, he went to Greece and signed with Panathinaikos for 2 years before joining forces with his brother in Milwaukee.

The younger Antetokounmpo brothers

Kostas Antetokounmpo was the final pick of the 2018 NBA draft. Initially selected by the Philadelphia 76ers, the team traded him with the Dallas Mavericks. Like his older brother Kostas, he too played with the NBA club and their G League team. Here, it was the Texas Legends.

He was earlier a part of the Los Angeles Lakers roster comprising of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. After two years and winning a ring for himself, Kostas left LA for Olympiacos. Earlier also, he largely featured for the Lakers’ G League team South Bay Lakers. Kostas is just 23 and luckily got his break much earlier than Thanasis. He certainly has time on his hands to impress and perhaps feature exclusively for an NBA side regularly.
