November 23, 2020 4:00 pm

The Boston Celtics cashed in big on their brightest player by offering Jayson Tatum a 5-year $195 million contract. Teams have been spending big during the offseason, and Tatum’s extension adds to the tally. After finalizing the deal, Tatum posted a message of gratitude which saw a reply from the Cs GM Danny Ainge.

Tatum was delighted with signing the rookie max extension, and he has completely earned it. The 22-year-old has been brilliant in his first three years. After signing the deal, he wrote on Twitter, “Can’t do nothing but thank God.”

Tatum’s tweet was welcomed by warm messages from Celtics fans who valued his presence on the team. But Celtics’ GM and President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge stole the attention with his powerful 11-word message for the young superstar.

“Stay humble, stay grateful, stay hungry. Let your light so shine,” Ainge replied on Twitter.

Ainge who was a two-time NBA champion as a player has been heading the Celtics’ front office for several seasons. He will be looking to build a young team around the core of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, given their spectacular talent.

How the Boston Celtics can cope without Gordon Hayward on the team

The Celtics had a wonderful run in 2020, where they reached all the way till the conference finals. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown showcased their talents on the big stage, and the franchise will be looking to repeat their success in 2021 as well. However, they faced a landslide when Gordon Hayward left for the Hornets on a massive four-year deal. This was a huge blow, but the franchise can effectively cope without him.

The Boston Celtics made a move to replace Hayward by bringing in Tristan Thompson from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson can fill in for Hayward and can be an effective replacement coming off the bench.

The Celtics thrived by playing Marcus Smart as a starter and deploying the small-ball lineup. Hence, they can keep Thompson in the rotation and improve defensively with Smart in the main lineup.

Tatum will be extremely motivated to achieve big after signing a lucrative deal with the team. His colleague Jaylen Brown, too, is a terrific achiever and there are huge expectations as to how well they can perform next season. And one cannot afford to sleep on Kemba Walker next year either.
