NBA on Wednesday indefinitely suspended the whole league for at least 30 days amid the threat from Coronavirus. This sudden chain reaction was the courtesy of Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert who was found positive along with his all-star teammate Denovan Mitchell, later. Not to say but these events led to quick actions from the NBA hierarchy. Adam Silver, himself lead the charge and deeply emphasized that this suspension is for the public.
In a letter addressed to the fans, Silver assured that this halt in the season is to safeguard and well being of all. He further clarified that plans of refunding or honoring tickets at a different date are being made once the season resumes or if it’s safe for all concerned. In this letter, he also mentioned that this suspension will last for at least 30 days.
This letter was obviously welcomed by all in the NBA community.
Boston Celtics Legend Bill Russell said that Adam made the correct call during this pandemic. He tweeted that the late David Stern would be proud of him for making this decision.
Russell has 11 NBA Championships to his name and is a five-time MVP. He is a true sports icon in every sense. That’s why this praise from Bill will mean a lot to Adam Silver going forward.
Russell is one of those people who has shaped what basketball today is. He is an example of what success looks like. That’s why Bill completely resonates with Adam Silver during this ‘high pressure’ time.
NBA ensures that it will look out on possible future actions that will benefit everybody. “This remains to be a complicated and rapidly evolving situation that reminds us that we are all part of a broader society with a responsibility to look out for one another. That is what the NBA will continue to do, and we are grateful for your understanding for being the best fans in sports,” the letter said.
