Miami Heat player Udonis Haslem had an interesting Pat Riley story during an Instagram live session with former teammate Dwyane Wade. Playing for the Heat 2003, Haslem is one of the longest-serving players for the franchise.

Haslem talked about a time when Riley hurt himself during a game. Interestingly, the injury was due to Riley losing his cool. At half-time, according to Haslem, Riley came in and kicked the door in anger. The kick in anger, surprisingly, resulted in hip surgery for Riley.

“I don’t remember what game it was, but he came in at half time. He got mad, he cussed us out, and kicked the door. And when you see his ass in about two weeks, you find out he had hip surgery, a bruised hip from kicking the door,” Haslem said

“He kicked the door. And we didn’t see Riles for about two weeks. Everybody was like, ‘Where’s Riles at, man?’ Riles snuck out and had hip surgery because he blew out his hip kicking the door.”

In 1991, he became the head coach of New York Knicks. Four years later, he joined Miami Heat where he now has an important position within the franchise. During his second stint as the coach of Miami, he won his fifth title as a coach. It might also have been when he met with the incident that Hasleem narrated.

Although Riley gave up coaching in 2008, he has been an influential part of the team’s success in the early half of the last decade. It was under his leadership that Miami formed the big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. As a team president, Riley will be looking to bring more success to the club in the coming times.
