Despite his slender frame standing just over six feet tall and weighing 165 pounds, he consistently defies expectations. Worthy’s rise to fame accelerated after his remarkable performance at the 2024 NFL Combine, where he obliterated the 40-yard dash record previously held by John Ross. With an astonishing time of 4.22 seconds, Worthy not only surpassed Ross’s record but also surpassed other notable benchmarks, including Chris Johnson’s 2008 mark.

The Cheetah himself took to X to say, “4.2 is crazy sheesh”. Then later, Brett Gilliland, who’s the West Alabama Tigers’ HC took to X to say, “Watching the combine 40 by Xavier Worthy reminded me of a @uwa_football pro day when @cheetah blew all the watches up!! ” The Cheetah got nostalgic and responded by saying, “Time flies don’t it”.

Worthy’s lightning-fast speed isn’t the only trick up his sleeve. Even before his remarkable showing at the NFL Combine, he was already making waves during his college years at Texas, racking up accolades and setting records. During his time at Texas, Xavier Worthy left an indelible mark on the gridiron. He shattered the school’s freshman receiving yards record with a staggering 261 yards in a single game against Oklahoma.

In the 2023 season, Worthy demonstrated his exceptional speed by reaching a top speed of 22.7 mph on a punt return touchdown, the fastest among all college players that year, despite the play being nullified due to a penalty. His stellar performance on the field didn’t go unnoticed. Bleacher Report’s Derrik Klassen ranked him as the No. 8 receiver in his class and projected him as a third-round pick. With his impressive showing at the NFL Combine, Worthy’s draft stock is poised to rise, even in a class filled with talent like Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze.

In the 2023 season, Worthy amassed 75 catches for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns, playing a pivotal role in helping the Longhorns clinch the Big 12 title and secure a spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time. As the NFL Draft approaches on April 25 in Detroit, all eyes will be on Worthy as he looks to make his mark at the professional level.
