The Miami Dolphins are looking to strengthen their outfit to make a deeper playoff run this season. And with free agency merely a couple of weeks away, the Dolphins will be making quick moves. As the squad looks forward to getting over the proverbial hump in 2024, the fate of two athletes whose contracts are set to expire has been in talks.

Center Connor Williams and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel both have to renegotiate with the Dolphins. Both players are represented by the same agencies as well. However, their paths might be diverging this season.

The 26-year-old Williams joined the Dolphins’ roster from the Dallas Cowboys. At Dolphins, his position was changed from left guard to center. And the All-American thrived in this new position. However, injuries plagued his career. In December, the Dolphins lost more than just a game with a 28-27 defeat against the Tenessee Titans.

At present, he is still suffering from a torn ACL due to the Week 14 game against the Tennessee Titans. Still going through rehab Williams’ agent Drew Rosenhaus said, “I do think that we’re going to be very methodical and take our time relative to the contract”.

William is now facing a rather unusual free agency situation this season. With his $14 million contract expiring, Williams isn’t in a rush to come back to football duties. The free-agency negotiations will begin on March 11. However, the impressive blocker is presently looking after his physical health and might sit on the sidelines. The case is rather different for his teammate, Van Ginkel.

Andrew Van Ginkel on path to rejoin the Dolphins

Drafted by the Dolphins in the 2019 NFL Draft in the fifth round. Van Ginkel signed a contract extension with the Dolphins for 1 year in 2023. And his manager suggests that Van Ginkel could find him once again with the Dolphins, due to the “mutual interest” of both parties.

However, his agent also claimed that the 28-year-old could be sought after as well. “Gink is also going to be coveted by several other teams”, said Rosenhaus. Ginkel has displayed versatility on the edge and as an off-ball linebacker so there is barely any doubt that he’s being sought after.
