Brock Purdy, who previously played college football for the Iowa State Cyclones, recently shared his reaction to the moment he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. The announcement came during the 262nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, where the San Francisco 49ers selected him.

On the third day of the 2022 draft, Brock Purdy’s mom, Carrie Purdy, prepared a small celebration at home with cake and balloons as they waited for his selection. Brock Purdy declined the idea of the party as he was unsure about getting picked.

Despite the uncertainty, Purdy’s mom, Carrie, was confident and invited friends and neighbours over to celebrate. She jokingly told Brock that she would pop all the balloons and eat the cake herself if he didn’t get picked, to which he laughed. The 24-year-old and his younger brother, Chubba, became impatient as the draft progressed into the sixth round.

Meanwhile, Brock received many calls from his agent informing him about teams interested in drafting him. Then, John Lynch, from the 49ers, called Brock, saying, “Hey, buddy. This is John Lynch from the 49ers. I’m sorry it took till the end. We find you very relevant, but you are gonna be Mister Irrelevant. All right, man. So we’re thrilled to have you. I’m gonna hand you over to our head coach, Kyle Shanahan.” Upon watching the video of his selection, Brock shared his reaction, saying, “I was so nervous to talk to him.”

After getting drafted, he’s proven himself on the field. With a record of 17 wins and 4 losses in 21 starts, he has shown his worth with 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes in his first full season as a starter. Recently he talked about the possibility of a contract extension.

Brock prioritizes winning over contract

Purdy said, “I’m trying to win this year and do everything I can for this organization. Everything else happens how it happens. But for me, I need to get better from last year on the film and the things that I saw from last year.” He further said that though it’s a business, he loves this organization, and he loves this game, that’s why he wants to represent the team in the right way.

He explained. “So that’s where I’m at with that. Getting too caught up in all that kind of stuff is, for me, that’s nonsense.” Purdy’s statement reflects his commitment to the game and his team. He understands that while contract talks are part of the business side of football, his primary focus remains on his performance and contributing to his team’s success on the field, setting an example of professionalism and dedication to the game.
