Sometimes, even the calmest faces can’t mask frustration. Justin Fields, usually composed, reached his boiling point on Sunday, and the cameras caught it. As boos rained down from MetLife Stadium, the New York Jets’ quarterback slammed his helmet, his patience finally cracking under weeks of offensive chaos. Minutes later, Aaron Glenn made the call no coach wants to make: Fields was done for the day.

Fields’ sideline frustration mirrored that of his teammates. Guard John Simpson committed two costly penalties. A false start and an unnecessary roughness flag. Because of that, Glenn pulled him as well. It summed up the Jets’ performance: chaotic and undisciplined. NFL reporter Connor Hughes noted, “Those are some LOUD boos for the #Jets, Justin Fields, as the first half ends with a sack. Broadcast shows Fields very frustrated on the sideline. He doesn’t usually show emotion like that.” Justin Fields was visibly frustrated with how the offense was performing.

The Jets were trailing 10-3 against the Carolina Panthers in the first half. So Glenn decided to put Tyrod Taylor in the field to start the second half. It was a statement, one that followed another poor offensive showing. Fields completed just 6 of 12 passes for 46 yards and added 22 on the ground before being pulled. The move marked a breaking point in a season defined by inefficiency and mounting pressure.

Despite Fields’ hefty $40 million signing, the Jets’ offense has struggled all season long. Glenn defended him publicly last week, claiming he just needed time to “play quarterback.”

But that defense is starting to wear thin. With the Jets still winless and facing the Bengals next, Glenn has a tough decision to make: stick with Fields or acknowledge that Sunday might have been the moment the team finally turned the page.

Bryce Young exits with ankle injury as Panthers hold off Jets

Carolina’s steady afternoon took an unexpected turn in the third quarter when quarterback Bryce Young limped off to the locker room with an ankle injury. What began as a routine exit for evaluation quickly escalated. By the fourth quarter, Young was ruled out.

Trainers helped him off the field as veteran Andy Dalton began to warm up. Dalton stepped in on the next drive, taking over with Carolina leading 13-3 against the New York Jets.

Before leaving the game, Young had completed 15 of 25 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Xavier Legette for the score. He also managed to add 10 rushing yards. The Panthers’ offense looked solid early on, but Dalton’s entry shifted the momentum. He led an 11-play drive deep into Jets territory, but a sack and a delay of game penalty ultimately forced a punt.

This injury overshadowed what had been another strong performance from Young, who has been remarkably durable throughout his three-year career. Aside from a single game missed during his rookie season, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick has been a reliable presence for Carolina.

Entering Week 7, Young had completed just under 62 percent of his passes, throwing for 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. While his second season hasn’t quite lived up to expectations, his potential is still evident, and now his health is the primary concern in Charlotte.

With Dalton ready to step in and Hendon Hooker on the practice squad, the Panthers have some options. However, as they gear up to face the Buffalo Bills next week, all eyes will be on Young’s ankle and whether the young franchise quarterback can make a quick recovery.
