With a 15-3 playoffs win record, Patrick Mahomes has already ascended to the Hall of Fame throne. He even has surpassed the HOF QB Peyton Manning’s overall playoff record 14-13, the QB who is considered one of the most legendary starters the NFL has ever produced.

Furthermore, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is often compared to Tom Brady, but has he excelled him? Well, as per the stats and experience, many believe he hasn’t. Like others, former Browns quarterback, Johnny Manziel, thinks Mahomes can become the next GOAT and surpass Brady only if he achieves some significant steps in his football career.

In a recent episode of ‘Run It Back’ on FanDuel TV LIVE, former NFL QB Johnny Manziel joined co-hosts Michelle Beadle, Shams Charania, Lou Williams, and Chandler Parsons, to talk about different sports, including NFL. When asked who he thinks is the GOAT quarterback of all time, Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, Manziel said, “I have a different opinion. I love Michael Vic,” because of his running style.

Considering the given two names, the former NFL QB expressed, “Mahomes is well on his way but you gotta go win six, seven Super Bowls to go beat Brady.” He further added, “Mahomes is the guy right now everybody’s got to go knock him off. I mean what he did in the Super Bowl this year, the last couple of years, I mean how can you not love that guy.”

Although Manziel and many believe that Mahomes still has a long way to go to surpass 7-time Super Bowl champ Brady, there are some who arguably believe Mahomes is somewhat superior to Brady because of a few reasons.

Mahomes surpassed Tom Brady?

There is no doubt that Tom Brady has ruled the NFL for two decades, and when he retired in February 2023, the 7x SB Champ took away the much-deserved laurels with him. However, there is one thing that gives an edge to Patrick Mahomes over the NFL’s legendary quarterback Brady. When comparing the two, it’s important to consider their careers in context.

Mahomes has been playing as a full-time starting quarterback for over six years now. To get a fair comparison, we should look into the stats of the initial six years of Mahomes and Brady, both. While Brady has more team victories overall in these six years, Mahomes surpasses him in certain individual stats.

For instance, Mahomes has thrown 219 touchdowns compared to Brady’s 147 in their respective six years as a starter. Additionally, Mahomes has more passing yards (28,140) than Brady (21,558) during these initial six years. Moreover, when we look at their college football career, Brady wasn’t highly regarded in college but still found success in Michigan. He wasn’t expected to do much in the NFL and was drafted in the sixth round by the Patriots. Patrick Mahomes, however, was a standout at Texas Tech, leading the nation in passing yards and touchdowns. He opted out of his senior year to enter the NFL draft.
