In the fiercely competitive world of the NFL, trash talk is as much a part of the game as the playbook. But even seasoned pros can sometimes misjudge their opponent. That was a lesson Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce learned the hard way after a memorable encounter with former LB James Harrison.

In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis and Jason were discussing “Welcome to the NFL” moments along with Saquon Barkley. Travis started talking about Harrison and how he might have rubbed off wrong on him.

“I’ll tell you what, I talked smack to the wrong guy, James Harrison, man, and like, that’s not a smart one to talk to,” Kelce confessed. Known for his physical prowess and fierce playing style, Kelce found himself on the receiving end of Harrison’s wrath during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kelce tried to heckle Harrison. And it was a decision he would soon regret. Harrison, known for his dominating presence and formidable play as an outside LB, was not someone to take such challenges lightly. “He’s staring at me again with the black visor, can’t really see if he’s looking at me, but I know he’s looking at me because he doesn’t say anything, Kelce recounted. The turning point came when Harrison, with impeccable timing and unrelenting force, just absolutely smoked me off the line of scrimmage,” Kelce recalled.

In a later part of the conversation, Kelce said that he is not yet done with his Super Bowl wins and wants to win one again.

Fresh from clinching the Super Bowl in February 2024, Travis is still basking in the euphoria of leading the Chiefs to victory against the San Francisco 49ers. The win was not just another accolade but the third of its kind under his belt. Reflecting on the sheer joy of clinching the championship, Travis had shared with ESPN, “Even at this point in my career, winning makes you feel like a little kid all over again.”
