Heading into Week 15 with an impressive 10-3 record, the Philadelphia Eagles have become one of the standout teams in the NFL in 2023. Amid their diverse winning strategies, a particular play has sparked attention and even controversy across the league. Fans and the media dubbed the particular play the “tush push.”

Interestingly, the Eagles have given it the moniker “Brotherly Shove,” paying homage to the City of Brotherly Love. This move of the Eagles has prompted divisions among the fanbase and experts. Some favor the play, while others want to ban it. So, both groups have voiced their opinions, and recently, a specific NFL analyst presented a significant argument in favor of the “Brotherly Shove.”

The prominent American journalist Albert Breer talked about the infamous “Brotherly Shove” play of the Eagles on The Rich Eisen Show. On the show, he stated he was one of the most prominent critics of the play almost a year ago, and he felt it was a cheat code for the offensive line and needed to be banned. However, his outlook changed with time since he witnessed other teams trying the “Brotherly Shove.”

He said: “I’ve seen team after team try it and fail. And this really seems to be just one team that’s really really good at it, that has a Hall-of-Famer center Jason Kelce, as strong as an ox quarterback Jalen Hurts, two guards who used to be centers at least when they were healthy, Dickerson and Jurgens.” He continued: “I don’t think you should change the rules because one team is really good at something.

So, Breer has changed his mind and believes that the “Brotherly Shove” is a skill rather than a cheat code. Moreover, it has been recently revealed that all the conversations about the play facing a potential ban are all rumored.

In a recent conversation, the NFL Head of Operations, Troy Vincent Sr, stated that they never considered banning the play and branded all the discussions about it as rumors. He said, “That was false. This play has evolved.” So, Vincent shared a lot of similarities with Breer’s opinion, as both agreed that the rules cannot be made in favor of or against one team.

Moreover, he also mentioned that the NFL hasn’t received any regular reports of injuries where they can take some action. “Philly does it better than anyone else; that’s a fact,” Vincent said, speaking to the NFL Network. “You don’t want to punish anyone for doing something well.” So, there’s hardly any chance that the “Brotherly Shove” may get banned since only the Eagles have been able to master the play in the entire league.
