The Patriots have been on a steady downward spiral after their famed quarterback, the greatest of all time, Tom Brady decided to move on from playing professional football. For years NFL fans and analysts had put almost equal credit, if not more on both the coach and his players for being able to achieve such extraordinary milestones, but the horizon saw a large shift following the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s departure. The Bill Belichick-helmed Patriots fell flat, facing a string of defeats that has catapulted the blame on the head coach so badly that he only wishes he could quit too. Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp in an appearance on Jason Whitlock hosted “Fearless” was indeed quite fearless. He strongly criticized New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for the team’s current season struggles.

Sapp delivers a harsh reality check for Belichick

Sapp suggested that it might be time for Belichick to retire, “Bill wants out.” According to Sapp, the Patriots Head Coach would much rather remain in Germany, enjoy the Octoberfest, and not even want to return to New England. Additionally, he attributed Belichick’s success in the game to two of the league’s greatest figures.“Tom Brady is the reason why you’re Bill Belichick. Lawrence Taylor is the reason why you’re Bill Belichick,” Sapp said.

The former NFL legend pointed a finger at the degrading performance put up by the Patriots and shoved the blame on its head coach. “So un-Bill Belichick, so un-disciplined, so un-situational football,” he suggested before addressing how such things that never happened before are happening over and over again every Sunday. “I don’t even know how he is showing up every week,” Sapp concluded. 

The road ahead for Belichick

The New England Patriots, under Bill Belichick’s leadership, are experiencing their worst start in franchise history, with a current record of 2-8 after 10 games. This downturn is particularly striking considering the Patriots’ sustained success during the Tom Brady era, where they never accumulated eight losses in a single season from 2001 to 2019. Quarterback Mac Jones has experienced career lows, and Belichick’s roster decisions have come under scrutiny.

While it’s unlikely that Patriots owner Robert Kraft will make an in-season coaching change, reports suggest that the end of Belichick’s tenure with the team may be approaching, marking a significant shift from his historic success with six Super Bowl titles. The Washington Commanders are considered a potential landing spot for Bill Belichick if he leaves the New England Patriots. With new ownership and a team in transition, Belichick’s experience and success could offer a significant impact.
