Fran Tarkenton, the NFL Hall of Famer, goes off on Zach Wilson of the New York Jets after their disappointing match against the Falcons last week. The 83-year-old is known to be a harsh critic of the NFL, and he didn’t hold back with his recent criticism of Wilson.

Wilson, the quarterback for the Jets, took over from Aaron Rodgers when he was injured in his debut match against the Bills. Since then, he’s had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders as he’s trying to live up to the bar of the veteran A-Rod. But after the Jets’ staggering 13-8 loss at the hands of the Falcons, it’s clear to the fans that Wilson has a lot more effort to put into his game.

On December 8, Tarkenton posted a video that saw him talking about last week’s game and calling out Wilson in the harshest way possible. Furthermore, Tarkenton also targeted players like Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins for being injured too easily and called out the NFL for their wants to make the game safer.

Tarkenton brutally said, “This past weekend, I saw the worst quarterback play I have ever seen in my life. Worst offense I’ve ever seen, and wasn’t Zach Wilson the second-round pick of the draft a couple of years ago? How can an NFL team have that type of quarterback play?“Furthermore, Tarkenton went on to talk about the poor performances of Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle and said that they were nothing but awful. It’s apparent that the Jets are currently struggling without Rodgers on the team, but Wilson’s stats seem to show that he’s been giving it his all in the game.

Zach Wilson and his ongoing season with the Jets

Wilson was never supposed to be the leading quarterback for the Jets, but after Rodgers’ severe Achilles injury, he had to be given the mighty responsibility. But even though he hasn’t successfully hit the mark yet, Wilson’s stats show that he’s made a few valiant efforts.

During this season, Wilson has completed over 1,944 passing yards and completed a total of 6 touchdowns. While these numbers aren’t exactly mind-blowing, they are still enough for the Jets to try to hold on to their 4-8 record and not lose any more points. The New York Jets are definitely struggling this season, but they still have a few more games left in the season to catch up and hopefully, Wilson can redeem himself as a star quarterback soon.
