Deion Sanders is a false prophet, the Bruce Lee of B.S., Harold Hill in designer shades,” this is what Sean Keeler of The Denver Post has to say about Coach Prime. It’s harsh for a Buffs fan to digest this troll. So, what did Deion Sanders do to get this criticism in the first place? In the world of sports, or technically in everything, there are always two sides – positive and negative.

Not everyone can digest Coach Prime’s optimistic attitude on the Colorado Buffaloes. Although the Buffs fell to an embarrassing 4-8 record in his first season as the HC, the 56-year-old still believes that his Pac-12 team can challenge for a spot in the CFP. But his optimism has pulled the wrong nerves as skepticism and criticism crept up.

Deion Sanders recently appeared on Fox Sports with Skip Bayless who asked him if the CU Buffs were up for a CFP challenge in the 2024 season. His answer was a direct and optimistic “Yeah, most definitely.” He added, “Shoot, I believe, man… Last year, (Keyshawn Johnson) watched all these games. We were seven points away from a multitude of wins, probably seven or eight more wins. We just didn’t know how to win.”

But according to Keeler, “They were 26 points away, in total, from flipping a 1-8 conference mark into 6-3” which isn’t in a position to promise a CFP win. But as long as Deion Sanders continues the 2024 season the way he’s seeing progress in recruitment, who knows what might happen?

Deion Sanders is aware of the challenges ahead

Every Buff was crushed with the 4-8 record last season and it’s going to take a lot of effort on both coaches and players to turn the record around. He asserts, “Everybody is going to be challenged. If it’s not out by your teammates, it’s going to be from your opponents.”

But this season, Coach Prime is already making adjustments to where his team fell short of last season. He has already secured six commits and 24 transfers for the 2024 season. And in the words of CU Buffs Director of Player Personnel Corey Phillips, “It’s a different spirit and energy. That’s what happens when you recruit good kids.” This season could make or break Coach Prime’s reputation as an HC.
