In a late-breaking announcement, Ohio State University revealed that it is on the verge of finalizing a deal with Bill O’Brien, a former head coach in both college and the NFL, currently serving as the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. 

The news signals a potential shift in offensive responsibilities, with rumors circulating about the prospect of relieving the current head coach of his play-calling duties. Amidst the anticipation surrounding O’Brien’s imminent arrival, there are strong indications that the coaching shuffle.

Multiple reports suggest that O’Brien is poised to step into this role, effectively displacing Corey Dennis from his current position on the coaching staff. Ohio State appears to be gearing up for a noteworthy reconfiguration in their offensive coaching lineup. O’Brien, known for his expertise in quarterback development, will take over as the quarterback coach at Ohio State, succeeding Corey Dennis. This move is part of a broader shift, with Head Coach Ryan Day stepping back from play-calling duties to assume a CEO role in the program.

Although it’s unclear if O’Brien will share the coordinator title with Brian Hartline, his hiring aims to distribute coaching responsibilities and tap into his extensive experience. O’Brien has a rich coaching history, including a head coaching stint at Penn State and success as an offensive coordinator in both college and the NFL. O’Brien’s recent role with the Patriots adds valuable expertise to Ohio State’s coaching staff, and his arrival is expected to enhance the team’s offensive capabilities. His track record, including two top-10 national finishes in scoring at Alabama, positions him to play a pivotal role in Ohio State’s football program. Though being replaced, Corey Dennis has had an illustrious career at Ohio State.

Corey Dennis’ impact on Ohio State

Corey Dennis, Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach since 2020, is likely to transition into a new role, possibly not as a full-time assistant coach.
