Pushing Past Controversies: Will He Make It This Time?

In 2020, Chase Claypool predominantly lined up outside, with only 155 and 146 snaps in the slot. Similarly, in 2021, he saw limited slot usage with 146 snaps compared to 655 out wide. However, despite the limited opportunities, Claypool showcased his potential in games with a higher slot snap percentage. Notably, in a game against the Eagles, he had a season-high 42.9% slot snap and recorded four touchdowns.

Chase is a mismatch nightmare for defenses. His size and athleticism make him a threat anywhere on the field. If used effectively, he can become a reliable target for Justin Fields, especially as a big slot receiver, using his size advantage against nickel corners, particularly in the red zone. With Claypool’s addition, the Bears might have found the missing piece that could propel them to success this season.
