DeAndre Hopkins finally seems to catch a break after countless letdowns. It has been a long two weeks for Hopkins without a home, and by the beginning of next week, he will reach 31 years of age. Keeping aside his huge salary cap, his declining performance, and his age have been the main two issues for a team to even consider signing him. But after a lot of back and forth, he has earned an official scheduled visit.

Most of the teams in the league are only interested in a reasonable salary cap, and newer faces with huge potential for a recruit. Even though Hopkins has had enough experience to lead a whole roster, he currently holds a salary cap of $19.45 million, which wouldn’t be very stable for a team. Then why would a team even consider Hopkins?

There have been a few rumors after the 3-times First-team All-Pro was released from the Cardinals after his salary restructuring negotiation dropped dead. Also, no other teams accepted Hopkins’ trade before his release. After his departure, some teams even came forward and declined to recruit Hopkins. After crossing all the thorns on the road, almost 10 days after his release, it was reported that the New England Patriots have scheduled a visit for Hopkins. So, what could that mean?

This could mean various things, but he finally has been presented with a chance to prove his worth. The Patriots are in dire need of a wide receiver like Hopkins and they have taken their first step. This team is still the most Super Bowl trophy holder in the league, and for Hopkins to even get a visit, is a very big deal indeed. This mere visit proposal doesn’t mean he will get signed, but he sure has started his free-agent tour.

Is Hopkins stalling for a better offer?

Hopkins recently appeared in an interview where he discussed his top 5 quarterbacks he would love to play with in the upcoming season. The list featured quarterbacks at the top of their game like Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Patrick Mahomes. It was also reported that Josh Allen’s team, the Bills were constantly trying to negotiate the WR’s transfer when the latter was still in the Cardinals. But as they didn’t meet eye to eye with the transfer negotiations, they finally have the opportunity to present him with a better deal, now that he is a free agent. Teams like the Chiefs have also shown interest in Hopkins as well, but due to his large salary cap, the team hasn’t been able to finalize a deal.

To sum it up, even though Hopkins has some teams in his sight, he has decided to wait further for a better offer. Even though he had a few terrible seasons, he is still one of the most ruthless wide receivers in the league. It is perfectly fine for his desire to be coveted by a reputable team and an excellent offer.
