It’s time to put conjecture and speculation away once and for all. After a summer filled with rumours of Tom Brady reuniting with Sean Payton, we finally have an answer. The former HC of the New Orleans Saints, has been confirmed as the next head coach of the Denver Broncos. And the Brady-Payton union? That’s certainly out of the equation, as Brady’s shocking retirement announcement has taken the world by storm. 

Payton will now shift his focus to Russell Wilson. Wilson has been a topic of discussion in the NFL for the past few months after a rocky and tumultuous year with the Broncos. He has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league over the past decade, but last year saw a fall from grace for Wilson.

Can Sean Payton put the Broncos out of their misery?

The former HC of the New Orleans Saints, has been confirmed as the next head coach of the Denver Broncos.  Payton has a reputation for being one of the best offensive minds in the NFL, and he has had great success with quarterbacks in the past. He has worked with the likes of Drew Brees, who became one of the NFL’s all-time greats under Payton’s guidance. Payton’s expertise and experience make him the perfect candidate to help Wilson reach his full potential.

Payton’s adaptability to fit the strengths of his players will also be of great use. In the case of Wilson, Payton will likely tailor his offense to maximize the quarterback’s mobility and ability to make plays on the run.

This could include a greater emphasis on the read-option and designed quarterback runs. These actions have been a staple of Wilson’s game throughout his career.

What does a Broncos roster with Payton at the helm look like?

With the Broncos missing the playoffs and ending up near the bottom third of the league, major changes are required. Payton will certainly look to move some pieces around the roster to create a team that better suits Wilson’s powers. Additionally, Payton will also be tasked with improving Denver’s offensive line, which has been a weakness for the team in recent years.

The QB has been sacked 482 times in his career and the most of any QB in the NFL over the past decade. Wilson needs better protection from his O-Line, and it’s Payton’s job to give it to him. Payton’s expertise in offensive line play will be invaluable in this regard. He will likely also bring in new coaches and personnel to address the issue.

Payton is the perfect candidate to help Wilson reach his full potential. The Broncos have a great opportunity to become one of the NFL’s best offenses with Payton at the helm.  The NFL world will be watching closely to see how he handles this challenge.
