“I work like I’m broke” – San Francisco 49ers’ Running Back Out To Prove A Point

The 2020 NFL season is a year of comebacks. Cam Newton, Alex Smith, Ben Roethlisberger, and Teddy Bridgewater are all making a return to the league. Apart from these reputed names, there is another star in the making who is getting back to the football field. He is the San Francisco 49ers running back, Jerick ‘Jet’ McKinnon.

McKinnon arrived in the Bay area on a four-year deal back in 2018 with great expectations. However, an ACL injury and further complications hindered his progress with the 49ers. But the highly-rated running back returned to training this year and is pushing for a spot in Kyle Shanahan’s O-line as we edge closer to the 2020 season.

Jerick McKinnon waiting for his chance to impress under Kyle Shanahan

In a recent interview, San Francisco 49ers’ Jerick McKinnon talked about his struggle with injuries. He also delved into his contract situation and what the upcoming season means to him in terms of his NFL career.

“I work like I’m broke. It’s hard to stop working. Before I signed, there was something special about this organization and the momentum they had coming off that last season (in 2017). That’s why I came. Younger guys, hungry guys who play hard The reasons I came here, it wasn’t really about the money. When it came up to reconstruction of contract, it wasn’t a big deal to me. It was about proving why I came here, getting back on the field and showcasing my talents, McKinnon told Mercury News reporter Cam Inman.

McKinnon confident that he can add something to the San Francisco 49ers’ offense

The former Minnesota Vikings man added that 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan knows how to utilize his abilities. “When it came up to reconstruction of contract, it wasn’t a big deal to me. It was about proving why I came here, getting back on the field and showcasing my talents. I do think I can open up a different element and my toolset that I bring. Kyle is a matchup guru at playing guys up to their strength,” McKinnon added.

Jerick ‘Jet’ McKinnon could prove to be a valuable asset for Shanahan heading into the 2020 season. As per reports from inside the training camp, Jet has certainly left an impression on his head coach. It will be interesting to see if Shanahan takes a ‘bet on Jet’ as the 49ers set their sights on the elusive sixth Super Bowl trophy once again.
