A week ago, Los Angeles Chargers’ quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a terrible injury to the ribs. With ample care and rest given in the past few days, it looks like Herbert is slowly getting back to speed. He was seen restricting himself to handing off balls to the running backs during Wednesday’s practice. On Thursday they introduced reporters to the sight of Herbert throwing, looking as fit as ever.

Herbert’s injury came last week in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. During this the Chiefs’ defensive end, Mike Danna struck him. Leaving the field for one possession, he returns to the field, only for Chiefs’ defenders Frank Clark and George Karlaftis to crash into him again. After the match, the diagnosis showed fractured rib cartilage.

Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi showed his admiration for Herbert’s grit. “The three toughest guys that I have ever been around are [Drew] Brees, [Matthew] Stafford, and Justin. He’s a tough guy, you see it, but it’s pretty impressive that he can do that under the conditions.”

Even though Herbert showed promising signs in Thursday’s practice session, the Chargers are still placing Herbert as a limited participant for the second consecutive day. Herbert’s final status will be known on Friday when the Chargers release their injury report. Along with Herbert’s unknown status, the Chargers are facing even more issues with center Corey Linsley and possibly cornerback J.C. Jackson missing Sunday’s game.

While the Chargers are the favored team over the Jacksonville Jaguars (who they face on Sunday), it will be interesting to see how much of their tactics will depend upon Herbert and his recovery.

Now the question is: will the Chargers risk a possible deterioration of the already fragile situation by making Herbert play? Even if they do allow him to play, will they settle for a simple win by not exerting Herbert? Or will they treat it like any other day and push for total dominance? It is subject to witness.
