Many NFL players are philanthropists. They like to give back to the people, as they are now privileged enough to help the ones in need. One of them is a two-time Super Bowl champion, Chris Long. Having amassed over $100 million of his on-field earnings, Long is now continuously helping the people in Africa.

During his time in the league, Chris Long played for the St. Louis Rams, the New England Patriots, and the Philadelphia Eagles. As a result, he had a decent fan following, and he didn’t let his popularity go to vain.

According to a report, in 2015, Chris Long teamed up with other NFL players to launch an initiative named the ‘Waterboys.’ With this initiative, the people involved had one clear mission. It was to provide clean and accessible drinking water to communities in need.

The group of players had installed 32 different water wells in Tanzania. They were 32 in number to signify one water well for each team in the NFL. Long had started the fundraising by putting in $50,000 of his own. Later, the group raised more funds by organizing an annual climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. Chris Long was inspired by Doug Pitt and Joe Buck, and after seeing their efforts, he decided to help as well.

The initiative of Chris Long also inspired NBA star, Malcolm Brogdon. He also stepped up to help the people of Africa and contributed massively in the process. In 2018, Brogdon started Hoops2O. It was a group of NBA players that had the same initiative as Long did.

In the first year itself, Hoops20 raised funds of over $275k. It helped massively to provide clean water for thousands of people residing in the country of Tanzania. NBA Legend Charles Barkley also assisted Brogdon and Hoops20.

Barkley donated around $45,000 to Hoops20. The Waterboy foundation, along with all its respective affiliates, provided clean water to over 350,000 people. The movement is on the rise. It will definitely help many more people in the coming future.
