The Dallas Cowboys and their fans are still reeling after another season of disappointment marked the end of their 2023 Super Bowl Aspirations. Throughout the offseason, the Cowboys and their management have been under the gun from NFL fans to improve their roster. But no one has been under more scrutiny than the leader of the team, Dak Prescott.

Prescott drew heavy criticism for leading the sub-par Cowboys offense, which ultimately led to the end of Dallas’ season. With just over a year left before the Pro Bowl QB hits unrestricted free agency, there have been growing concerns amongst Cowboys fans about his uncertain future. And to the dismay of fans, it doesn’t seem like Dak himself knows where his next stop might be.

When asked about his contract situation at a recent press conference, Prescott gave a somewhat evasive response. While answering a question from Jon Machota of The Athletic, the QB gave a vague cookie-cutter response which has many fans worried. He said that he’s “less in tune” with the negotiations now than he has been in the past.

“More in tune? Nah, probably less in tune than ever really, to be honest with you…that’s stuff that I leave to the Cowboys and my agent.”

Prescott’s comments could be interpreted in a few different ways. On one hand, he may genuinely not be concerned with the negotiations and trust that a deal will get done when it needs to. On the other hand, his comments could be seen as a subtle way of pushing the Cowboys to take action sooner rather than later.

What could Dak Prescott’s next contract look like?

Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract in March 2021, after playing the 2020 season on the franchise tag. The deal includes $126 million in guaranteed money, making it one of the richest contracts in NFL history. Although the team is yet to find its groove with Prescott at QB, he is still amongst the most prized assets at his position in the league.

With that in mind, given the rising rate of top-tier QBs around the league, it isn’t difficult to imagine Prescott landing a deal that sees him earn nearly $50 Million a year. Aaron Rodgers just landed a $150 Million deal, and some of the top players in the league are right under the benchmark of fifty. So, the only question that remains? Are the Cowboys ready to put their faith and the future of their franchise in Dak Prescott’s hands?
