San Francisco 49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan ‘Very Proud of His Team’ After Latest Win

By 2 months ago

All hell broke loose for Kyle Shanahan and his San Francisco 49ers last week. In the win over the New York Jets, multiple 49ers stars suffered nasty injuries which reduced their options for the Week Three clash at the MetLife Stadium.

The likes of Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Bosa, Raheem Mostert, and George Kittle were not part of the team on Sunday. Backup quarterback, Nick Mullens, started for the 49ers against New York Giants.

He had one hell of a game throwing for 343 yards and completing on passing TD. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan had nothing but admiration reserved for his players.

Here’s what he said in a rather emotional post-game press conference after Sunday’s win.

Kyle Shanahan-led 49ers end their New York trip on a positive note

Kyle Shanahan will be relieved that his team’s away stretch in New York is finally over. The 49ers have been through a lot over the last week or so. Understandably, coach Shanahan was a little emotional while talking to the media in the post-game presser.

He said, “I was really happy with this week. Losing that many guys last week and just the way it sort of happened made us a little bit emotional to start and pull together throughout the week.

“I just got a real good vibe and energy on Wednesday by the time we started practicing all the way to last night at the hotel and meetings before the game.”

“Then today, I think they played very hard all four quarters. I was very proud of our team. I was last week, too, you know, the way it started last week and some of that stuff — then to overcome that and keep grinding through it.

“It feels good to be back here and to do it two weeks in a row. I can’t wait to get back home now,” Shanahan said via NFL Network.

Our defense was able to get some turnovers, added Shanahan

Shanahan further spoke about how his defensive players stepped up in the absence of Nick Bosa and other stars. He said, “No, and it’s nothing against (the Giants) at all, but we had a real good week of practice.

“We were pretty confident last night. I know the way it ended up, but by no means was that easy. Those drives were grinds. We didn’t punt today and we didn’t turn it over, but it didn’t feel like that. We had to work for a lot of stuff and they kept us out of the end zone a number of times.

“Fortunately, our defense was able to get some turnovers, but, that’s a good team. It got away a little bit there at the end, but I was real proud of our guys. That was our plan. We wanted to do that. We came in and wanted to do that.

“We thought we could do it and I was proud of the guys for pulling it off,” Shanahan concluded.

The 49ers are set to go toe to toe against the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins at the Levi’s Stadium. Hopefully, they will be able to witness the return of the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle in the next few weeks.

But if not, 49ers fans can rest assured that their boys have their game bolted down.
