Trades sometimes leave an unpleasant aftertaste for the affected players. And it looks like it certainly did for Baker Mayfield. The Carolina Panthers QB snubbed his first team in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns. When asked about his old place, he gave a clever thought-out reply.

The Browns traded Mayfield to the Panthers in the offseason this year after four years in Cleveland. The Browns picked up Baker Mayfield as the first pick of the 2018 NFL draft. But after he sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in January 2022, he was placed in the injured reserve.

“What old place? Oklahoma?” Mayfield said. He then started talking about his college team, the Oklahoma Sooners. When someone corrected him and asked about the situation at the Browns, Mayfield came out with a clever response.“That’s not my old place, I used to play there,” Mayfield said and continued to talk about the Sooners instead.

The Browns acquired Watson from the Houston Texans in exchange for three future first-draft picks after the 2021 season. Things soured between the team and their starting QB after that deal. And finally, Mayfield left the Browns. He even agreed to take a pay cut to make that deal possible.

Baker Mayfield joined the Panthers in July 2022. But it hasn’t been rosy at all. Mayfield started the season as the starting QB for the team. But all indications are that he has lost his place to Sam Darnold.

After winning just one game in the five starts he got, the QB suffered an ankle injury in Week five. The injury saw him miss the Week six game against the Los Angeles Rams. The Panthers benched him to start PJ Walker for the next two weeks. He returned after a terrible first-half display by the team in week nine against the Cincinnati Bengals
