Deshaun Watson ended the season as the league leader in passing yards (4,823). However, the Houston Texans finished third in the AFC South with a 4-12 record in 2020. They sacked GM/HC Bill O’Brien in Week 5 and are currently on the hunt for a new leader. But Watson’s future with the Texans is also said to be ‘on the edge’.

Andre Johnson spent 11 years with Houston Texans, making it to 7 Pro Bowl events over the course of his NFL career. He remains a revered figure in Texas, so when he speaks, people listen. Here’s what he said about Deshaun Watson’s current contract situation with the Texans.

Johnson was subjected to major flak for his outspoken claims. But there were also many who agreed with his point of view, claiming Watson deserves more. It’s difficult to argue with that based on the young quarterback’s consistent displays over the last two years. Deshaun needs more backing in the offense department.

But what does this mean for the Houston Texans?

Former NFL man Domonique Foxworth was quick to address the Andre Johnson tweet while also giving his opinion on Deshaun Watson’s long-term future in Texas.

He said, “This is a legacy story for Deshaun Watson, we’re talking about guys defining their legacy that Deshaun Watson is trying to define early on. So your point about Andre speaking is right. Andre is the ghost of Christmas future coming back to visit Deshaun Watson and tell him what his career can be there in Houston and potentially what it can be elsewhere.”

“You get one chance at this career, one chance at this life, if you have an opportunity to change the context and make it better, that’s fine. Being a good soldier doesn’t work out when there are alarms going off and you’re just going to sit there and keep giving people the news as if a fire is not coming to get you there. Deshaun Watson knows that a buyer is coming to get him, so he better get the hell out of there and make his career what he wants it to be,” Foxworth said on the show.

Watson is already being linked with big-money trade deals to the likes of San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots. He was also rumored to be included in a swap deal with Miami Dolphins rookie Tua Tagovailoa. But for now, these reports lack any sort of official confirmation.
