Nick Kyrgios Out with an Injury Blow

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios was knocked out of Miami Open 2019 by Croatian 11th seed, Borna Coric. The final score read 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Coric’s favour and the Aussie was sent packing in an exciting match. Kyrgios had a solid game in the opening set but as the match progressed, that initial burst of strength waned and he seemed to give up by the third set.

Now, Nick Kyrgios has been dealt a further blow as he has been forced to delay his clay court season. As it turns out, the 23-year old picked up a knee injury and will have to skip the Houston Open. Nick Kyrgios played there last year and managed to reach the quarterfinals, though he lost to Ivo Karlovic.

Had he played in Houston, it would mean that he would be kicking off his clay court season. As of now, the extent of his injury is unknown so his next tournament will be a mystery. Hopefully for his sake,Nick Kyrgios is able to recover in time for the Madrid Open and get in some valuable experience before Roland Garros later this year.

Coric held his nerve and was fiercely disciplined while Kyrgios was busy riling up the fans. He remained focused throughout the three sets and from that point on, winning the match was a cinch. As of now, the 23-year old Nick Kyrgios is ranked 33rd in the world.

This knee injury will undoubtedly be a big blow for Nick Kyrgios so all he can do is wait and let nature take its course. Hopefully for him, the injury is not so serious and he can recover quickly. In the meantime, his berth in Houston will be taken by Italian, Paolo Lorenzi. This will be Lorenzi’s 5th appearance in Houston since his debut back in 2012.
