Serbian tennis star, Novak Djokovic, took a short break before going in for the tournament in Vienna. The world number 1 is hopeful of bouncing back following his French Open 2020 loss against Rafael Nadal.

The next Grand Slam on schedule is the Australian Open 2021. Melbourne has been a favorable venue for Djokovic who celebrated eight Grand Slam wins there. Therefore, Djokovic would be looking forward to 2021 to claim his 18th Grand Slam title in his favorite arena.

However, there is uncertainty regarding the quarantine period of the Australian Open. The players are yet to know whether it has been reduced or not. As of now, the participating players are looking towards an early flight to Australia. The Serbian accepts the issue and reflected on the uncertainty the pandemic crisis has brought forward.

“We still don’t know how the situation regarding the pandemic will unfold, whether Australia will shorten that quarantine period, if that is not the case, all tennis players will have to go to Australia much earlier. Tennis is privileged as a sport because it is lucky to have continued in a slightly changed and modified form.

“Most tournaments have continued since the end of the season. What will happen after that, a small percentage of people know that we will all have to correct ourselves and adjust every day, to change personal, family plans, it irritates each of us, but we have to deal with it and accept those circumstances,” he stated.

Novak Djokovic to defend his Australian Open title

Djokovic will be the defending champion at the Australian Open. The 17 time Grand Slam champion had some wonderful opportunities to claim his 18th in 2020 itself. However, an unfortunate ‘default’ showed him the exit door at the US Open 2020.

His chances were even greater when he stormed into the finals of the French Open 2020. However, Nadal tamed him with ease as he picked up his thirteenth title in Paris.

For Djokovic, the primary target in 2020 remains the ATP Finals. The world number 1 would be looking forward to the season-ending tournament and to end the year on a high. The Serbian star even gave up the ATP Tournament in Paris to take some rest before getting back in action and claim some points to secure his spot in the ATP rankings.
