New Zealand opener Martin Guptill and India off-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal were seen involved in a funny banter after the end of the second T20 international in Auckland. Chahal came to Guptill, who was talking to India vice-captain Rohit Sharma on the field. Chahal greeted Guptill who replied with “hey g***du”.

Rohit failed to control his laughter after hearing that. Guptill, who didn’t realise the whole moment got captured by the host broadcaster, became embarrassed.

India took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series after their consecutive win over New Zealand in Auckland. KL Rahul, who had scored 56 in the first T20I at the same venue, remained unbeaten on 57 in the second. The hero of the first game, Shreyas Iyer, also contributed 44 runs off 33 balls with three sixes and a four. Although India lost two early wickets – Rohit Sharma (8) and Virat Kohli (11), courtesy Tim Southee (2/20).

Spinners Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner then bowled some economical spells to keep their hopes alive as India batted at 60/2 after 10 overs. However, it was the 15th over that certainly changed the game. Rahul opened his arms off Hamish Bennett for 16 runs as New Zealand failed two missed run-out opportunities, the second of that came in the last ball of the over.

“We probably knew we were light on runs. But we had to try and defend that, and get early wickets upfront. Thought the bowlers did well in the front six overs, we needed more wickets after Virat got out. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul batted very well and we were not able to break that partnership,” Guptill said after the second T20I.

“They played very well, as hard as they did the other night. They built partnerships to put pressure on us. We were not able to do that and got out-batted tonight. India have got some great players and match winners. It is hard for the boys to go out there and try their best. Sometimes you come up short,” he concluded.
