Isabell Werth: Olympic legend

The German Olympian, Isabell Werth, was born on 21 July 1969. Undoubtedly, she is of the world’s most prolific dressage riders. The five-time Olympic medallist is celebrated as the most decorated equestrian. She also holds a record for the most Olympic medals won by any rider. What a stunner!

Talking about her career feats, Isabell won team gold for Germany in Barcelona in the year 1992. Afterwards, she won another medal in Atlanta in the year 1996. Not only this, but her streak continued. She secured the first position on behalf of her nation in Sydney (2000), Hongkong (2008), Rio (2016) and finally Tokyo Olympics (2020).

Interestingly, she won a gold medal at every Olympic Games she has ridden at. Fascinating, isn’t it? Smoothly, she has clinched every individual gold in 1996 with Gigolo and individual silver in Tokyo with Bella Rose 2.

Bella Rose’s final performance at Tokyo Olympics

The German felt extremely grateful for winning the silver medal at Tokyo Olympics since it was Bella Rose‘s last ride. The 17-year-old house, as reported by Isabell, will retire now. Apparently, she calls it to be her “dream horse”.

While competing at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in 2014, Isabel participated in her competition with Bella Rose. The 10-year-old horse was indeed the best companion for the Olympian. They posed  81.53% in the Grand prix to finish second to Valegro in Normandy. However, the horse suffered from a major injury due to which; the mare had to be withdrawn from the rest of the competition.

Even though Werth has announced Bella Rose’s retirement, the duo will compete at CHIO Aachen one last time. “We want to demonstrate our abilities in our last appearance on the big, international circuit,” Isabell said.
