What if your favorite NFL stars suited up not just for their teams but for their countries at the Olympics? Sounds wild, right? But believe it or not, we might be just one vote away from seeing Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts competing in flag football at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Can you imagine that? Hurts dropping back, throwing a perfect 25-yard slant, not in Eagles green, but in red, white, and blue for Team USA. How cool would that be? But how is it possible?
Well, NFL owners are about to consider a game-changing proposal that would allow players to participate in Olympic flag football. ESPN insider Peter Schrager has been dropping major hints. He says, “If you want NFL players to compete in flag football in the 2028 Olympics, you’re in luck.” Things are falling into place for the owners to create a rule that allows their best players to represent their countries.
Nevertheless, remember these are not unprotected. Several rules will be put in place to avoid damaging the league’s main attraction. How best can you keep your efforts on track? Schrager broke it down on Get Up: “I was very flippant on this as well, and I heard from folks at both the players’ union and the league office saying, don’t laugh at the idea of this getting passed.”

He even said, “It might happen as soon as today that NFL players will have the ability to play in the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028 in flag football.” Still, there will be obstacles along the way. As an example, just one NFL star from each nation is allowed to play, so if Patrick Mahomes were to go to the Olympics would prevent his teammate from joining Team USA as well.

Suppose two star players, such as Mahomes and another top pick, both seek game time, but only one is allowed to suit up, so big choices must be made. The NFL is making sure to handle this opportunity while keeping everything and everyone safe. But because the stakes are so high, NFL players must understand the major restrictions involved. And made it.

What it takes for NFL players like Patrick Mahomes to make the Olympic flag football team
Remember that epic Olympics commercial last year with Jalen Hurts? He wasn’t just promoting the LA Games, he was hyping flag football’s big Olympic debut. Earlier this year, Hurts became the official ambassador for Flag Football, meaning he is leading the effort. As NFL owners prepare to vote, we could soon witness Hurts, Mahomes, and other NFL stars playing in red, white, and blue uniforms. Does that surprise you?
Even so, this doesn’t mean everything is up for grabs. Those who strive for Olympic victories in the sport must follow serious rules. Any NFL player under contract can participate in a tryout, although only the NFL team of their choice can have one player compete in the Olympics, and that team’s International Player also represents their country.

If you’re concerned about injury players during flag football, remember that the league offers insurance as well as salary cap credits for that. Besides, the host facilities, including medical teams and sporting areas, have to fulfill NFL guidelines, and the NFL training camps can’t conflict much with the Games (as the Games stretch into July).

The big highlight? Other topics, including the “Tush Push” rule, will be voted on by NFL owners in Minnesota. Should the vote pass, we could have NFL stars becoming Americans competing for Olympic gold. What do you make of it? Ready to watch your favorite football heroes like Patrick Mahomes go for gold on the world’s biggest stage? Because honestly, this could be the coolest thing to ever happen in sports.
