Haas boss Guenther Steiner is quite aware that Mercedes customers have been none too pleased with their meteoric rise. However, he believes that they have no right to complain about Ferrari’s gains this season.

The American outfit have established themselves as serious contenders for fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. As of now, they lie 16 points behind fourth-placed Renault.

Haas and Sauber have benefitted from a more powerful Ferrari engine. Especially considering that they now have a current-spec power unit from the Scuderia fitted in.

Haas’ rise has ruffled some feathers in the paddock as the season progressed. However, Steiner find the complaints hypocritical since Mercedes power dominated over the last few years.

“Mercedes customers shouldn’t complain because they had a very good engine the last four years,” Steiner said.

“The first years of these regulations, if you didn’t have a Mercedes engine, you were nowhere. Now Ferrari has overtaken them and everybody having a Ferrari engine are critiqued – ‘Oh, you’ve got the good engine’.

“Yeah we have. So did you the last four years and you didn’t take advantage of it. So what can I do? I’m very happy. If the other ones are unhappy, I cannot help them.”

Although they have been having a great season and fighting for top midfield team honours, the season is long. The F1 fraternity is currently on their summer break where the drivers and teams are getting some much needed R&R.

Once the season resumes in Belgium at the Spa Francorchamps circuit, it is business as usual. The American team will face stiff competition from the likes of Renault, Force India, Toro Rosso and McLaren to an extent.
