Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to regain his place in the squad when Pakistan play T20Is against Bangladesh in January 2020.

Sarfaraz was axed from captaincy and subsequently lost his place in the Pakistan team in October before Pakistan toured Australia. The sacking had come after a series of disappointing results.

Pakistan were coming into the  2019 Cricket World Cup with a rather poor record. Trashing in all three formats against South Africa at the start of the year was followed by whitewashes in England and Australia. Pakistan however, went with Sarfaraz as captain for the 2019 World Cup, but without much outcome.

Going into the new year, it is reported that Sarfaraz might get an opportunity to reignite his career. Mohammad Rizwan was handed the wicket-keeping responsibilities in the absence of Sarfaraz. However, Pakistan do not seem to be happy with his performances, especially in T20s.

Ahead of the Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh, Geo News’s journalist Arfa Feroz Zake reported that Sarfaraz will attend a fitness test early in January with him expected to make it to the T20 squad.
