Did John Daly win a major championship in his first attempt?
John Daly made his debut on the PGA Tour in 1987 but got his card in 1991. However, the world got to know him during the 1991 PGA Championship as he won the event in his first attempt itself. But it is interesting to note that this was his first attempt only at PGA Championship, as Daly had already competed twice in the U.S. Open.

This was incredible, as John was a tour rookie and ninth reserve for the PGA Championship. And after Nick Price withdrew from the event just a day before, he joined the field. Hence, John did not have any practice or idea about the course. But thankfully, he managed to get Nick’s caddie, who helped him a lot throughout the event.
Daly started the event decently but improved his performance as the game progressed. Eventually, he won the event by three strokes. This was not only his first major win but also his first PGA Tour victory. Furthermore, he also became the first rookie to win a major championship title, since Jerry Pate won the U.S. Open in 1976.
