Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the best games of this era as far as visuals are concerned. With top class animation and cut scenes, extreme attention to detail, this game ticks all the right boxes. Furthermore, it solved the crowd-rendering dilemma that allows the game to graphically execute numerous people in one place.

Nevertheless, the fact remains that Uncharted 4 could not hit the FPS standards. Even with PS4 Pro or PS5, Naughty Dog was unable to execute the sweet spot visually. Truth be told, the game does not look bad in any way. However, it does not help the fact that the game runs at 30 FPS on PlayStation 5. What fans might find more disappointing is that on PS4 Pro, Uncharted 4 could not clock 60 FPS at 1080p.

Many would argue that even at 30 FPS, the title looks visually pleasing. The reason behind this is the rendering process Naughty Dog is using to run the game. They basically upscale the 2K image to a 4K one. The result is a 1440p resolution running at 30 FPS.

This discussion is not about how great the game looks even with lower specs. When Sony announced backwards compatibility on PS5 for PS4 games, Uncharted 4 was one of them. Automatically, everyone assumed the games will use the potential of next-gen consoles to deliver cutting-edge visuals. With 8K and ray-tracing making the headlines, Naughty Dogs’ lethargy in uplifting such a stunning game is disappointing.

Uncharted 4 is a splendid example of a game that does not require greater frame rates to deliver the best possible visuals. However, that is not an excuse to not go for something more stunning and visually appealing.

This video from ElAnalistaDeBits shows a comparison of the visuals of UC4 on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5. It is very clear that there is hardly any difference between the two. While the images on the PS5 are definitely sharper than those on PS4, it fails to cut any quality difference on the next-gen console.
