Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was one of the most anticipated titles this year. Along with the current-gen consoles, it released for the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 on November 10, 2020.

In terms of running games at high resolutions, the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X perform similarly. As a result, the debate around the PS5 vs Xbox Series X has majorly narrowed down to the loading times of either console.

YouTuber JorRaptor compared the fast travel times and boot times of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on both the next-gen consoles:

At first glance, the PS5 seems to overshadow the Xbox Series X in loading Ubisoft’s latest action RPG. However, understanding some key aspects of both the consoles helps us in better analyzing the comparisons.

Xbox Series X-1 minute 26 seconds

It is worth noting that the PS5 skips some loading screens unlike the Xbox Series X. Microsoft’s next-gen console shows multiple loading screens that display Ubisoft and its engine, adding almost 30 extra seconds to its loading times.

Interestingly, fast travel times to the same location have minimal differences:

PS5– 11.90 seconds

Xbox Series X– 11.83 seconds

Hence, it is safe to assume that the PS5 and the Xbox Series X can run Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla identically. The PS5’s custom made SSD might have a slight advantage in loading games; however, there aren’t any noticeable changes while playing the game.

How fast are the next-gen consoles compared to the current gen-consoles

JorRaptor also compared the loading times of the Series X and the PS5 with the Xbox One X. Unsurprisingly, the current-gen console is nowhere near the next-gen consoles in terms of speed and performance.

The Xbox One X takes over 2 minutes and 50 seconds to load Valhalla, and over 50 seconds to fast travel inside the game. These numbers are enough to prove how the next-gen consoles are going to revolutionize gaming.
