PUBG Reportedly Releasing Sequel to Compete With Fortnite, Apex Legends and Warzone

PUBG released in 2017 and took the world of gaming by storm. Even though it wasn’t the first game to introduce the battle royale genre, it offered graphics and gameplay that were far superior to any of its rivals. However, PUBG got a taste of its own medicine with the arrival of games like Fortnite, Apex Legends and Call of Duty Warzone.

The game is no longer a fan favorite and has witnessed a severe drop in its user-base over the years. Some of the most popular creators like Shroud and Dr Disrespect also quit playing the game. Both the veterans felt that PUBG is full of hackers and hasn’t evolved much since its release.

Having said that, it seems that PUBG is finally putting efforts to reclaim its throne. As per reports, the franchise is currently working on a sequel, and would soon announce the news globally.

PlayerIGN, on Twitter, reported that PUBG just confirmed that it’s working on PUBG 2.0 and PUBG Mobile 2.0:

Will Project XTRM be enough to defeat Fortnite?

Earlier this year, PUBG Korea added 15 new job listings for a new project named XTRM. Some sources believed it to be a separate game within PUBG; however, the lack of any further details left the community guessing. If the aforementioned reports turn out to be true, it is safe to assume that project XTRM was PUBG 2 throughout this time.

Another interesting claim regarding the PUBG sequels talks about different developers for different platforms. While the Seoul Headquarters of Krafton has been developing the PC sequel of PUBG, the head of PUBG Lite will be responsible for PUBG Mobile 2.0.

Even though PlayerIGN had previously informed fans that the upcoming PUBG sequels across PC, console, and mobile will be cross-platform, he now feels that it will not be possible owing to separate developers.

Following the success of PUBG, Krafton has solidified its place as one of the biggest developers in South Korea. It certainly has the potential to create a ground-breaking game yet again. To say the least, it will be interesting to witness how competitors like Fortnite and Apex Legends react to the return of one of the most loved battle royale franchises of all time.
