Afghanistan had a dismal show in the ongoing ICC World Cup where they failed to win a single game. However, after the poor show at the mega event, the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced a change in the leadership where the leg spinner Rashid Khan has been appointed as captain across all three formats – Tests, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. Former captain Asghar Afghan will be his deputy.

Rashid Khan, however, a classy spinner, who has the ability to turn the table anytime. A lot of expectation was there on him in the World Cup but he failed to deliver and had the worst figures among his teammates as a bowler. He bagged only seven wickets in nine games while conceding 416 runs.

Gulbadin Naib was named the captain of the team before the World Cup and he led the team in the crucial event which didn’t go well with many. Even Rashid Khan was also not happy as the board sacked Asghar from the post of captain before the World cup. Before the World Cup, Asghar had successfully led Afghanistan to ODI series wins over Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Even their first-ever Test win over Ireland earlier this year also came under his captaincy only.

As the captain, Rashid Khan’s first major assignment will be the Test against Bangladesh in September. After that the tri-series with Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Their next will be against the West Indies which included a one-off Test match in India in November. The series comprised of three T20Is and three ODIs along with the only Test which will start from November 27.

It will be interesting to see how the young lad leads his side in the upcoming series.
