The Delhi Capitals took over the lead in the IPL table with an emphatic win over the Rajasthan Royals. Youngsters, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw were the stars of the show with an 84-run stand for the third wicket.
Following the match and the victory, Delhi Capitals mentor, Sourav Ganguly rushed out and wrapped Rishabh Pant in a strong embrace. That moment certainly made Pant’s night, getting a hug from a legend of Ganguly’s calibre.
Speaking after the match, Rishabh Pant said, “After I finished off the match and coming out, everyone was showering so much love. It felt special when Sourav sir lifted me, it was a different experience,”
He continued, “We talk about finishing these big games for the team, and when we do it, feels really special,”
Afterwards, Rishabh Pant was quizzed on his thoughts of his own innings. In response, Pant confessed, “It’s a great feeling, especially the fact that I was with you (Shaw) in the middle, I knew we would finish it.”
“This was a first time experience for me. I didn’t realise it had happened. I thought it had nicked my bat. It was only when someone, probably you only told me that the bails had lighted up,”
Pant struck an unbeaten 78* to help guide the team to victory, while opener, Shaw faltered at 42. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals were boosted by a 54-run score from the the opener, Shikhar Dhawan.
On the opponents’ side of the game, Ajinkya Rahane posted a mighty 105, backed by 50 from Steve Smith. Alas, it went in vain as Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw went to town with the bowlers. In the end, the Capitals won by 6 wickets to top the table.
Now, Delhi will be facing the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the next match on Sunday 28th April.
