Roger Federer Reveals Bizarre Reason for Knee Surgery in 2016

Roger Federer reveals that the cause behind the knee injury that forced him to undergo the first surgery of his career in the first half of 2016 were his twin daughters – Myra and Charlene.

The World No.3 recalls that he was tired after his 2016 Australian Open semifinal loss against the eventual champion Novak Djokovic and his daughters forced him to have a bath, a day after. However, while he was bathing his daughters, something clicked in his knee and then realized that he is suffering from a torn meniscus.

“I just lost my semifinal match at the Australian Open and I woke up in the morning and I was tired, obviously because pressure fell off, the match was over,” Roger Federer recollected in an interview with NBC News.

“And my kids went to the pool in the morning and I woke up probably around 10 in the morning and I came back and I was like okay let’s jump in the shower and the girls were like, ‘we want to take  bath’ and they were like no shower days and I was like no bath days,” Federer added.

“I was like okay let’s bath I am tired. So I go and opened the water and as I am turning and I heard a click in my knee and I go back and was like that was strange. I went to the zoo in the afternoon but then I was limping like I can’t believe. And I am like what’s happened and I go to the doctor, torn meniscus and I had to do surgery,” the 38-year-old concluded.

The Basel native had to undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair his torn meniscus. The 20-time grand slam champion was on crutches for 12 days and was able to return on the ATP Tour in mid-April at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
