Pakistani Suspended spinner Saeed Ajmal  is set to appear in his official ICC bowling test next week in Chennai but he claims to have passed an unofficial test in England. The 37 year old spinner was suspended for illegal bowling action in September last year and last month withdrew from the world cup squad.

Ajmal went in for private test in Edgbaston to test his modified action and said he is confident that he will clear the official test as well. According to reports all the deliveries were under 15 degrees including his doosra.  Ajmal’s first assessment in August revealed his arm extension went 43 degrees and according to latest ICC rules the arm extension needs to be less than 15 degrees.

It remains to be seen whether Ajmal  is able to make the cut to the World Cup squad if he goes on to clear the official ICC test as well. According to latest ICC rules all teams can replace a player before Feb 7 deadline. What will be interesting to see is whether Ajmal will be as lethal as he used to be with his modified action?
